My wife, son, and I stayed in an Executive Suite with Lounge Access at the Swissôtel Sydney — one of their higher-end room options, including full buffet breakfast and use of the executive lounge. We arrived around 9am and were advised that our room wasn’t ready, with the standard check-in time being 3pm, which was fine. I asked reception to call once the room was available — unfortunately, no one did. When we returned at 3:30pm, there was some confusion at the front desk before an available room was eventually found. Our luggage, which had been left with the concierge, was meant to be delivered to the room by 3pm. It didn’t arrive until about 45 minutes after we got to our room, which was frustrating after a long morning waiting to check in. The overall check-in process definitely needs improvement. The room itself was decent in size and comfortable enough, but it was located right next to the lift, which made it quite noisy throughout our stay. The bathroom also needs some maintenance — it appeared a bit tired and the shower door didn’t close properly, leaving the floor soaked after every shower. Throughout our stay, one of the three guest lifts was out of order, and another broke down over the weekend. With the hotel fully booked over the weekend (around 980 guests), that meant long waits — at times 20 minutes or more just to get a lift. On two occasions, staff had to escort us through to the service elevators, which really shouldn’t happen at a hotel in this price range. We stayed at the hotel for a total of four nights. At AU$800 per night, I expected a smoother experience and higher standard of service. The location is great and the breakfast was enjoyable, but overall, the stay felt underwhelming and poorly managed.
