We stayed 3 nights at Swissotel Quito on our way to the Galapagos. The room was immaculate and the staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. We are looking forward to a return visit on our way back from Quito.

I flew into Quito on February 10 and only expected to stay at the Swissotel for 2 nights. My traveling partner had a heart attack and was taken to the Hospital Metropolitano on February 12. He was in the ICU for 10 days and had major heart surgery. The wonderful and kind people of the Swissotel arranged for me to stay at their lovely hotel for the duration of that stay, giving me a discount because of my situation, providing lovely drivers and cars to shuttle me back and forth from the hospital, greeting me upon my often teary return at night with warmth and even Kit Kat bars! The desk staff, the bar staff, and the restaurant staff provided without exception excellent, kind and compassionate service to me throughout my stay. I can't thank them enough.

The hotel staff were all very helpful. The front desk staff arranged for me to see a doctor and even escorted me to the building next door for an xray.

Hotel is well located and nicely appointed. Room is big and comfortable and staff is friendly. However, almost all the equipment in the room was not in working condition: 1) air conditioner would not go below 23 degree centigrade. Upon reporting this to the hotel after our first night of poor sleep, we were told “it’s working properly” and it just “takes a couple hours to get to the target temperature”. Obviously it never did. So, a second night’s poor sleep. On day 3, we became assertive and insisted that they fix it. They did. But taking care of such a basic problem only when the customer got more aggressive is not the sign of a well managed hotel. 2) refrigerator: never worked. I found out only when I realized that all the groceries I bought on the first day were spoiled. I had to ask for a replacement which they provided without arguing. 3) coffee maker: did not make coffee! Need I say more? Clearly this hotel does not take in room maintenance seriously.
