ZÜRICH, Sep 2010

The cultural city of Basel is the perfect place for art fans over the next few months. Two of the about 40 museums in the city on the Rhine have real treats in store: the Kunstmuseum Basel presents a major Andy Warhol exhibition and the Fondation Beyeler has an amazing themed exhibition on the Viennese Modern Age entitled “Wien 1900”. Swissôtel Le Plaza has put together a special package to mark these events.

Until 23 January 2011, the Kunstmuseum Basel is showing “Andy Warhol - The Early Sixties”, featuring paintings and drawings from 1961 - 1964, the artist's most important creative period. During these years, Warhol gradually replaced his individual visual language with a more media-focussed one, producing collective image material using mechanical processes.

The Fondation Beyeler is presenting a major exhibition until 16 January 2011 on the Viennese Modern Age (1890 – 1910) entitled “Wien 1900” and showcasing famous ornamental works by Gustav Klimt, depictions of the body by Egon Schiele and Oskar Kokoschka as well as works by other artists, architects and furniture designers.

The “Art Package” from Swissôtel Le Plaza, Basel includes one night for two people on the weekend, with breakfast buffet and two admission tickets to one of the exhibitions above. The package also includes entrance to pürovel sport fitness area and one Mobility Ticket per person, which gives free access to all public transport in Basel. The overnight prices for the “Art Package” start at CHF 122.50 per person per night and can be booked immediately and for all weekends until 16 January 2011, subject to availability. The package can be booked through Swissôtel Le Plaza, Basel at www.swissotel.com/basel/ or by calling +41 (0) 61 555 3731.
