Destination Overview
Located in south-west Switzerland at the crossroads of France, Italy and Germany, the city of Geneva sits at the south-end of Lake Geneva and is divided by the Rhône River.
The population of 180,000 inhabitants is primarily French speaking; however, Geneva has 40% foreign residents, which makes it a truly international city. Its historic buildings, such as Saint-Pierre cathedral, the 16th-century town hall and the 18th-century Palace of Justice, remind visitors that the city is a cultural centre as well as a financial one.
The city of Calvin includes many museums and places to see such as the Red Cross museum, the United Nations palace and the Patek Philippe museum. Geneva is also the departure point of many cruises on Leman Lake, the Swiss vineyards and the nearby mountains.
